Australia and South Africa won the bid to co-host the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Telescopes back in 2012. The project has since been developing in both countries.

In South Africa, the MeerKAT array, currently with 64 antennas, is a precursor of the SKA which will be integrated to the it with an additional 130 dish antennas to form SKAs mid frequency array. In Australia, the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory site, home to SKA precursors Australia SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) and Murchison Widefield Array (MWA), will be the central site for major components of SKA telescope infrastructure. While the MWA will not form part of the final SKA array, it will provide important input into the design and science goals which the low frequency aperture arrays will be undertaking. The ASKAP is undergoing intense technology development. 

As the project swiftly progresses, it was due time for SKAO to appoint directors who will oversee the project proceedings in both countries  The appointees are Dr Sarah Pearce and Dr Lindsay Magnus. Find detailed article about the appointment here.
